Riot police have clashed with protesters in Nicaragua who are demanding fair elections ahead of the 2016 ballot which is expected to return Daniel Ortega for a third term.

The violence erupted in the capital Managua as activists were attending a weekly demo to call for a change in electoral rules they say favours Ortega’s Sandinista party.
