A car bomber attacked a Danish convoy belonging to a NATO mission in the Afghan capital Kabul on Sunday, wounding at least three civilians but leaving international forces unharmed, security officials said.

A Danish military spokesman said some civilians may have been killed but Afghan officials reported no fatalities. The interior ministry said three civilians were wounded.

Captain William Salvin, a spokesman for NATO’s Resolute Support mission, said the Danish soldiers were part of a security team normally engaged in protecting advisers travelling to and from the Afghan military academy near Kabul.

AFP news agency reports the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, which happened when a car packed with explosives hit the convoy in the west of the city.

“The explosion was very strong… The windows of my house were shattered,” said one local resident.

NATO has about 13,000 troops in Afghanistan. Their main role is to train and support Afghan forces fighting the Taliban and the Islamic State militant group.
